Zombie Shooter is a free top-down zombie survival shooter that runs directly in your web browser on desktop computers, tablets and phones. There is nothing to download and no account is required to play. The outbreak begins in overrun city streets and spreads to a frozen research outpost, an overgrown jungle and a rusted industrial zone, before the story reveals who is really behind the infection and ends aboard an alien mothership.
Survival comes down to movement and aim. You move with WASD or the arrow keys and aim by hand with the mouse, or on phones point the move stick where you want to shoot and press the big Shoot button; Player 1 never gets auto-aim, so every hit is your own. You can keep running while you fire, swap between a primary and a secondary weapon, reload behind cover, throw tactical utilities and use your survivor's active ability. Missions ask you to clear zones, escort survivors, hold out against timed waves, protect generators, defend a moving truck and defeat bosses such as the Hive Mother and the Overseer. A friend can join on the same keyboard in local co-op, up to three players can team up online, and squads of up to six meet in Team Deathmatch and Search & Defuse from the Multiplayer Hub at zshooter.com/multiplayer.
The game is built with TypeScript and HTML5 Canvas, bundled with Vite and served as a static web app. Sound effects and music are generated live with the Web Audio API. Progress is saved in your browser, and an optional free account (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore) syncs your save to the cloud and powers online rooms. Online matches are host-authoritative: the host simulates the match and sends snapshots over WebRTC, falling back to a Firestore relay when a direct connection is not possible.
Game Modes & Boss Mechanics
Endless Horde
Endless Horde is a wave survival mode where you play as SWAT, Assassin, Technician or Marksman. Waves grow larger and faster, and every few waves you draft a perk and can overclock your primary weapon. A supply crate lands each wave with a ten-second power-up: Infinite Ammo, Double Damage or Shield. Every fifth wave is a weather event: a Power Blackout where only your flashlight beam lights the arena, a Blood Moon, or a Toxic Fog that shrinks your view. Mini-bosses arrive on a timer: the Butcher dashes at you, the Venom Spitter leaves acid pools, the Shockwave Titan slams the ground to knock you back and slow you, the Necromancer raises runners, the Shadow Stalker turns invisible and reappears beside you, and the Infernal Juggernaut shrugs off damage while pulsing rings of fire. After ten minutes, stronger elite versions return. Screamers speed up nearby zombies and summon a few runners, and Riot Shield zombies block bullets from the front, so you have to flank them. Your best run goes on the global leaderboard.
Riot Fighter: Stage Run
Riot Fighter is a side-scrolling brawler through six sectors as Reaper, Ghost, Warden or Shambler, each with a light attack, a heavy attack and two abilities such as Soul Scythe, Cloak, Fortify or Toxic Spew. Midway, the Cryo Stalker charges across the arena and fires freezing shards that slow you; keep moving sideways and punish it after a dash. At the end, the Canopy Leviathan anchors the stage and sprays spores while minions pour in, so clear the adds before committing to the boss. Faster clears earn a bigger time bonus. The mode can be played solo or online in co-op.
Infiltration Operations
Infiltration Operations is an online co-op mission for up to three players across three connected rounds: hack supply crates in the City Streets, clear fifty infected in the Alley Corridors, then hold the helipad on the Extraction Roof until the evac timer runs out. Teammates who go down can be revived by holding the interact key beside them within ten seconds.
PvP Duel: The Pit, Overgrown Courtyard and Abandoned Outpost
PvP Duel is a one-on-one match in The Pit, a symmetric arena with cover on both sides. Both players bring their equipped loadout, and bullets, Pipe Bombs and Molotovs hurt the opponent. Gun damage against players is scaled down so nothing kills in one shot. The first player to five eliminations wins. Every sixty seconds a power weapon drops on the centre pad: the Flame Sniper sets its target on fire, and the Grenade Launcher fires explosive rounds. After an elimination you see a short killcam from your opponent's side, then respawn at your start point. A third player can join the room to spectate.
Before each duel both players vote between two of the three maps. The Pit is the classic balanced arena; Overgrown Courtyard is full of bushes for stealth play; Abandoned Outpost has long corridors, open sniper lanes and security camera terminals. Duels use equalized PvP weapon classes picked in the lobby so campaign upgrades give no edge: the Shotgun fires six pellets that hit hard up close but fall off quickly, the SMG fires very fast with low damage and a small magazine, the Sniper hits for 90 with a slow bolt action and a scoped crosshair, and the Assault Rifle sits in the middle with moderate damage and accurate mid-range fire. Opponents never appear on your minimap. Standing in a bush hides you unless your opponent gets close or you fire, and holding Use on a camera terminal for two seconds reveals the opponent's position and vision cone on your screen and minimap for ten seconds.
Multiplayer Hub: Team Deathmatch and Search & Defuse
Every online mode lives on the Multiplayer Hub at zshooter.com/multiplayer, with Random Match and private rooms for each. Team Deathmatch is a 2v2 battle on two arena maps, Quarantine Crossroads and Rooftop Ruins, where barricades in the middle open and shut every thirty seconds and infected roam the field, attacking both squads. The first team to 25 kills, or the team ahead after seven minutes, wins. Search & Defuse is played 2v2, or 3v3 with five or six players, on Bio-Lab Sector or Cold Storage: the attackers plant a Bio-Bomb at site A or B and the defenders must stop them or hold Use for five seconds to defuse it before its 35-second fuse runs out. You get one life per round, the sides swap after three rounds, and the first team to four rounds wins. Both team modes use the equalized PvP weapon classes, and empty seats are filled by bots so a match can always start.
Arcade cabinets
The Arcade Hub also includes Rot Fighter (one-on-one versus fights with a CPU ladder or a local friend), the Endless Highway Gauntlet (defend a truck bed and weld the engine back together), and the retro shooters Crimson Highway and Void Blast.
Weapons, Perks & Tactics
Primary and secondary firearms include the Rusty Pistol, Old Rifle, Viper SMG, Hellfire Shotgun, Titan Sniper and M9 Sidearm, plus chapter weapons such as the Blizzard Rifle, Thermal Railgun, Cryo Grenade Launcher, Venom Spitter SMG and Scrap Autocannon, and melee options like the Combat Machete, Stun Baton, Jungle Machete and Rebar Cleaver. Weapons level up with kills to unlock attachments (Extended Mag, Laser Sight and Red Dot) and can be fitted with a talent: Ricochet, Explosive Rounds, Overclocked Magazine or Vampiric Rounds. Bullet tracers and gun camos change how your shots look.
During campaign missions, perk drafts offer three cards to pick from, such as Vampiric Heal, Ricochet Bullets and Incendiary Ammo, which last for the rest of the run. The persistent Skill Tree adds offensive upgrades (reload speed, critical damage, armour piercing), defensive upgrades (max health, Second Wind, damage reduction) and tactical upgrades (shorter utility cooldown, longer supply buffs, extra Scrap).
Your tactical utility is thrown with X. The Pipe Bomb beeps and pulls nearby zombies towards it before exploding, which makes it ideal for escaping a crowd or setting up a choke point. The Molotov Cocktail leaves a burning patch that damages anything standing in it, perfect for doorways and corridors. Cooldowns are 30 seconds in short missions and 45 seconds in boss and endless modes.
Loadout strategy: carry one weapon for close range and one for long range and swap between them; deal with Spitters and Exploders first; reload while retreating, never in the middle of a group; save your ability and utility for bosses and emergencies; and use Yellow crates and supply drops to plan your route.
Version History & Patch Notes
v2.1.5 – New lobby chat in the Multiplayer Hub, with a Global channel and a channel for your room. Verified developers now carry a golden DEV tag in chat and on the leaderboard. Runs changed by developer testing tools are never posted to the leaderboard.
v2.1.4 – Server announcements: the development team can now post a live banner to everyone playing. New moderation tools let the team end a cheating session immediately, and banned accounts are now barred from online multiplayer as well as the leaderboard.
v2.1.3 – New Graphics Quality setting (Settings → Graphics): High, or Performance for a steady 60 fps on lower-end devices (1x resolution and lighter 3D shadows). Developer spectating now shows the real game graphics, smoothed to 60 fps.
v2.1.2 – Anti-cheat monitoring: the development team can now see who is online and watch live campaign and Endless Horde sessions (read-only, your run is never affected) with automatic checks for wall clipping, speed hacks and ammo tampering.
v2.1.1 – Developer roles: owner accounts can appoint and remove admins from the Admin Panel, and owner accounts are protected from admin actions.
v2.1.0 – Developer tools: an Admin Panel for the development team to remove fraudulent leaderboard runs, bar cheating accounts from posting, and send Z-Coin, Pass XP, camo and badge gifts to players (gifts arrive automatically with an in-game notice). Leaderboard protections are now enforced by the server.
v2.0.9 – New Cosmetics tab in Settings with a Crosshair Selector (Default, Pinpoint Dot, Neon Ring, Chevron, Gold Diamond, with live previews and the Mini Pass tier that unlocks each), and a Badge Selector with a player-card preview on the Profile tab. Claiming a crosshair or badge on the Mini Pass now offers EQUIP NOW, and your badge shows next to your Endless Horde leaderboard runs. Fixed Daily Bounties showing "undefined" goals on some days.
v2.0.8 – No more safe spots. If you park somewhere the horde has stopped reaching you, you get a warning, then zombies appear right beside you, then a toxic cloud blooms on the spot until you move (holding a position against a horde that keeps coming, or behind your own barricades, never counts). Endless Horde's alleys are wider so every boss can follow you in, and online matches now refuse positions inside walls.
v2.0.7 – Fair play: your save is now signed, so editing it outside the game just restores the last real save, and Endless Horde leaderboard runs are checked before they count (the wave must match the time survived, kills must fit what the horde can spawn, and the run time must have really passed on the server's clock). Runs whose numbers were changed mid-game aren't posted.
v2.0.6 – Fixed the green movement joystick freezing on some phones, especially iPhone / iPad Safari: the stick now follows its own finger no matter what else you touch, keeps tracking when your thumb slides off the ring, never gets stuck after a lost touch, and the page no longer lets Safari's scroll or zoom gestures grab the stick during a match.
v2.0.5 – Arcade balance. Crimson Highway is much harder: levels every 18 seconds open with traffic surges, sprinting zombie runners lock onto your lane, stalkers cut across the road, and oil slicks and spike strips join the traffic (with the odd armour repair kit). Your guns now build heat; max it out and they lock while the car handles sluggishly until they cool. Void Blast shots cost energy, back-to-back shots stretch the cooldown, and damage comes from charging: hold Space and release, with a PERFECT shot for letting go just as it fills. Armoured aliens in the top rows shrug off quick taps.
v2.0.4 – New Multiplayer Hub at zshooter.com/multiplayer with every online mode on one page (open it from the new card beside Start Game). Two new modes: 2v2 Team Deathmatch on shifting arena maps with roaming infected, and Search & Defuse (2v2 / 3v3) where attackers plant a Bio-Bomb at site A or B and defenders stop or defuse it; bots fill empty seats. Phones and tablets: the aim stick is gone. Your gun points exactly where the move stick points and a big Shoot button (or any tap on the right half) fires straight ahead.
v2.0.3 – Phones and tablets: resting your thumb on the aim pad or anywhere on the right side of the screen now fires straight the way you are walking, just like the FIRE button, in missions and online matches. Drag that thumb to aim somewhere else.
v2.0.2 – Phones and tablets: your gun now faces the way you walk, so FIRE shoots straight ahead (drag the aim stick to aim anywhere else), with a new Fire button in online matches. Holding or double-tapping the controls no longer pops up Copy / Paste / Select or zooms the page. Online 1v1: your shots no longer appear behind you for a moment before flying forward.
v2.0.1 – Smoother online matches: players and zombies now glide on the host’s own timeline with an adaptive buffer and short look-ahead, so they no longer jitter or rubber-band on shaky connections, and shots leave the shooter’s gun on every screen. Plus a link on the main menu to try WarGame.
v2.0.0 – Sprays! Press V (or the new 🎨 touch button) to tag the wall or floor you are aiming at, in campaign missions (painted right onto building walls in 3D) and in online matches, where your squad sees every tag live. Ten designs in the new Sprays tab of the Skin Shop, two free, including a Squad Tag spray that paints your clan tag.
v1.9.9 – 3D mode: bosses are now solid 3D bodies that stay visible behind buildings (a cloaked Camo Stalker shows as a shimmer instead of vanishing), and every survivor, skin and infected wears its own high-resolution 2D art on a smooth 3D body, so skin shop looks, gun camos and mutation skins appear exactly as designed.
v1.9.8 – Random Match no longer leaves the second device stuck: rooms from closed or backgrounded tabs are skipped, a host that never starts is abandoned after 10 seconds and the search continues, and you get a warning if the same account is searching on two devices. New loading screens for online matches and the 3D renderer, which now preloads on the menus, and 3D quality adjusts automatically to keep the frame rate smooth.
v1.9.7 – 3D mode: the camera now glides with you and keeps you centred even at the map edges; your equipped skin, gun and camo become a solid voxel model built from your 2D gear; shots leave the barrel with a muzzle flash and a glowing tracer.
v1.9.6 – 3D mode: bullets are glowing tracers at gun height again, and survivors and infected are chunky outlined 3D models (locker skins keep their colours) that stay visible from every side, with a silhouette shown through any building in the way.
v1.9.5 – 3D mode: survivors, allies and infected are now upright sprites of their normal art that always face the camera, so they stay fully visible next to buildings. The texture pack switch moved from the home screen into Settings → Graphics.
v1.9.4 – The Enhanced 3D Textures pack is now real 3D: low-poly buildings, survivors and infected seen from an angled camera, with dynamic lights, muzzle flashes and shadows. Gameplay is unchanged, and devices without WebGL keep the previous 2.5D look.
v1.9.3 – Phone controls: drag anywhere on the left half of the screen to move and anywhere on the right half to aim and fire; the thumbstick knobs now line up with your thumb.
v1.9.2 – Multiplayer fixes: other players and their health bars render again, in-match chat, quick remarks and speech bubbles work again, two players pressing Random Match at the same time now land in the same room, and squad tags are readable while typing.
v1.9.1 – Squads with no members left are hidden from the squad leaderboard.
v1.9.0 – Squads with clan tags and a global squad trophy leaderboard, Daily Bounties and a 20-tier Mini Pass (crosshairs, exclusive camos, animated badges), a chat Soundboard, and Lightning Strike / Shadow Explosion duel finishers.
v1.8.9 – In-match chat for online rooms: six quick remarks, typed messages (Enter on desktop), speech bubbles above players and a toggleable chat log.
v1.8.8 – PvP killstreaks (UAV Scan, Sentry Turret), duels now first to 10 and perks (Ninja, Scavenger), Cryo Stalker blizzard and Canopy Leviathan spore-cloud phase 2, Gold / Neon Grid / Diamond mastery camos in the Locker, and emotes on the HUD and end screen.
v1.8.7 – Random Match matchmaking for PvP Duel and Riot Fighter co-op, and a 15-second duel map vote.
v1.8.6 – Online Riot Fighter skin picker in the lobby, glowing blue/red player rings, redesigned Cryo Stalker and Canopy Leviathan bosses, and new Cyber Samurai, Void Reaper and Mecha Enforcer skins.
v1.8.5 – Competitive PvP: map voting between The Pit, Overgrown Courtyard and Abandoned Outpost, equalized PvP weapon classes, hiding bushes, hackable camera terminals and no enemy minimap tracking.
v1.8.4 – Online touch layout fitted inside the iPhone safe area, aim pad in the bottom-right corner and canvas-relative touch mapping.
v1.8.3 – This written guide on the homepage, whole-page scrolling for the main menu on phones, scrollable Arcade Hub and screen-fitted Endless Horde.
